My attempt at a pressed plate

My second mug. I tried putting something into the side but it didn't work out how I wanted it to.

When is everything due?

The registrar has allowed a relaxation of the usual rules about getting grades in.  Normally they are due within 48 hours of the last class which was today...   Instead, I can submit the grades first thing on Monday morning.. so It would be great if you could have anything you are still working on photographed by Saturday night.

Pictures you put on the blog should also be put in your Google Drive folder.  Also put any photos you took at school before we abandoned ship.  If there is any work at school that didn't get photographed, write a short description of it and put that in your drive too.

This was hard to continue class this way, and I did miss everyone... I think an important part of the learning process was to allow me to help you, hands on, with your projects, pointing out how things could be better, and showing you how to fix things.  On the other hand, all real learning and progress comes from your own practice and struggle with the medium.  I tried to use the comments on the blog to support and encourage you, rather than be too critical.

If you would like to fire your work, hang on to it for now... keep it dry.  When we get back to school, bring it in to the class and I will have an area set aside for you to leave it for bisque firing.  I will help you glaze your work too.

Hang in there.

Last week final project

Video Response

Wrote this a week ago but never posted:

We do not think of the little things like where clay comes from, how it is used by others, and how much our earth is involved. I thought it was very interesting how there was a constant connection between the pottery, forms of work, and the earth itself. The earth is a strong variable when talking about ceramics. It made me think that it is not only just a beautiful work, but it shows that it truly is authentic. It involves creativity and makes sure that all your power is incorporated into making something. I think the video should be shown in future classes because it gives an understanding of how to work with clay. It can bring out brilliant ideas and make the creative process much easier. I think this class benefited to watching and it gave myself some more knowledge that I did not possess before.

Last Week!

One more project... This is your free choice... Or if you'd like try this footed bowl

This simple technique produces an amazing mini folded bowl 🙂
Perfect if you don’t own a pottery wheel.
Step 1) Roll out a slab, and make a square.
Step 2) Make your design in the square slab
Step 3) Cut away triangles from the corners
Step 4) Round off the edges, lift up the corners and score and slip them together.
Step 5) Add a foot to your new bowl

Remember to create a Google Drive folder and share it with me using jnevins@albertus.edu

Posts here until Monday morning will count towards attendance...

Have fun!
